Will you be the next Jennifer Hudson?

I am not a big fan of TV (out of many reasons), nor a fan of the American Idol show.  But today, I want to talk about Jennifer Hudson, a former American Idol contestant who according to Simon ‘she’s “out of her depth” in this competition’.

How many times did someone tell you that you were not good enough, smart enough, strong enough, pretty enough, creative enough?  Whatever it is – you are just not perfect.   This happens.  This happens often.  The question is does it really matter?  Are you going to let someone else define who you are?

When I was growing up, my mom always love to compare me with other kids.  Look at so and so – he or she is so smart; so popular; so great in football; so awesome in math, science, art, history…  Whatever it was – it just didn’t make me feel good.  In fact, those words didn’t really help me.  What is the point?  They are better so?  So what?  Those comments drove me crazy.  But most of the time, it just made me angry.   Just writing about it now makes me angry.

The truth is those hurtful comments does not matter.  Are you going to let Simon to define who you are?  No one (even your parents) can define who you really are and what you can become.  You define who you are.  You will be the next millionaire, next business owner, investor, etc.  You will become (blank) when you are ready.  There are many Simons out there and they WILL say things that are hurtful.  Whenever it happens, just put Simon’s face on them and start laughing.

2 years after being booted out from the American Idol show, Jennifer Hudson won her first Oscar as the best supporting actress from the movie ‘Dreamgirl’.  It did not matter who said what about Jennifer.  It is all about who you believe you are in your mind.  If you don’t believe you, who would?
