How can you sell Girl Scout cookies and win a free trip around the world?
I recently got a few questions from some female youngsters who were wondering why YoungsterInc never talked about female entrepreneurs. First of all, I want to emphasize that YoungsterInc.com is created for all young entrepreneurs including all boys and girls. There is absolutely no bias around here. You girl youngsters are as important as the boys. According to a recent UCLA study, 1 out of every 11 women is a business owner. Female-owned businesses account for $2.3 trillion in annual sales. The number of adult women who express an interest in becoming entrepreneurs is also rising. YoungsterInc also wants to encourage our female youngsters to live their dreams and build your own businesses.
Today I want to spend sometimes and feature a sales story I just read from ‘Chicken Soup of the Soul’ about a 9 year olds girl who sold over 3000 boxes of Girl Scout cookies in one year and won her and her mom a trip around the world.
Her name is Markita Andrews. Markita sold over 60,000 Girl Scout cookies since she was 7 years old. Going from door to door after school, Marikita changed herself from a shy girl into a cookie selling machine.
When Markita read in her Girl Scout magazine that the scout who sold the most cookies would win an around the world trip that year, she decided to sell as many boxes of cookies as she could.
Marika set goals and developed a plan for herself. She always dressed up in her Girl Scout uniform. She would always smile and ask everyone to invest in her and her Girl Scout cookies. She went off everyday after school, ready to ask and keep asking people to invest in her dream.
Marika would say ‘Hi. I have a dream to earn a trip around the world for me and my mother by selling Girl Scout cookies. Would you like to invest one dozen or two dozen boxes of cookies with me?’
In one year, Marika sold over 3000 boxes of Girl Scout cookies and won her trip around the world. She was no smarter than you and any other youngsters. The difference was that she has discovered the secret of selling – Ask, Ask and Keep Asking.
Ask for what you want. Don’t be afraid of rejection. Don’t defeat yourself by other people’s words. Take action, ask and keep asking despite of fear. You too can become another Marika; not only selling Girl Scout cookies, but selling your dreams.
Now – how many cookies are you ready to sell?
